Swissaustral had a very busy first semester in terms of meetings and conferences this year. In march, 2016, Dr. Felipe Sarmiento and Dr. Jenny Blamey attended the BIT’s 7th International Symposium of Enzyme and Biocatalysis-2016 in Seoul, South Korea. This meeting represented the first attempts of Swissaustral to showcase its products and services in Asia. As a result, new contacts and partners were met which will potentially shape Swissaustral objectives for years to come.
On April, Swissaustral moved to the west coast to assist to the 2016 World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology. Dr. Felipe Sarmiento delivered a well-received presentation to Showcase Swissaustral activities. Also, the One-on-One Partnering was an excellent platform to make new connections and re-ignite discussions with old partners.
Finally, on late July Swissaustral assisted to the 2016 SIMB Annual Meeting where Dr. Giannina Espina delivered a presentation highlighting the properties of our novel high-performance recombinant thermophilic laccase enzyme.
We will keep you posted about the next meetings and conferences where Swissaustral will be attending, so we can connect!

Athens, GA - January 10, 2017
Swissaustral published a new book chapter in the book "Biotechnology of Microbial Enzymes: Production, Biocatalysis and Industrial Applications". This book represents an extensive review of current microbial enzymes innovations and their biotechnological applications in different fields. Dr. Felipe Sarmiento and Dr. Jenny Blamey participated in writing the chapter called "Enzymatic Biocatalysis in Chemical Transformations:  A Promising and Emerging Field in Green Chemistry Practice". The chapter is an overview of the current state of biocatalysis for application in green chemistry, and gives a survey on different techniques to discover and develop novel industrial enzymes, including a deep view about the potential of extremophiles as a source of enzymes of biotechnological potential.
The book chapter was organized by Dr. Hans-Peter Meyer, professor of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland, who has extensive experience and background on industrial biotechnology, and it was developed in collaboration with Dr. Fabian Fischer and Dr. Manfred Zinn also professors at the same institutions.

Athens, GA - June 12 2015
Swissaustral will be attending the XXIII Enzyme Engineering conference from September 6-11 in St. Petersburg, Florida, USA. This conference is one of the most important events in enzyme technology and biocatalysis with a focus on novel technologies. Some of the most important companies in the enzymes space will be present, as well as representatives from academia. Dr. Felipe Sarmiento, Business Innovation Director North America, will be representing Swissaustral at this meeting.

Dr. Sarmiento will present a poster explaining the novel biocatalytic solutions that Swissaustral is currently offering, and the new developments in Swissaustral’s pipeline. It is expected that a poster presentation may ignite discussion and exchange of ideas with representatives of other companies dedicated to biocatalysis with the objective of establish future potential collaborations.

Dr. Sarmiento has a Ph. D. in microbiology from the University of Georgia, and extensive experience working with extremophilic and anaerobic microorganisms. In addition, he has worked for more than two years in business development for Swissaustral. Working for Swissaustral he has developed a comprehensive understanding of industrial enzymes discovery and development, and the overall enzymes market.
